This National Geographic film is rather long, but it is a splendid visual depiction of the Vatican's unparalleled wealth, complexity, and worldwide political significance. It also gives a decent historical sketch of the actual parcel of land upon which the Vatican sits.
Some factual inaccuracies, but overall quite useful as a primer.
