It's official: Biometric ID cards have been scrapped!

Great news! Biometric ID cards have officially been scrapped after the Identity Documents Bill received Royal Assent.

As a result, all issued ID cards will now be cancelled within one month and the National Identity Register, the database which contains information of card holders, will be destroyed within two months.

The Liberal Democrats have consistently campaigned against ID cards and since entering into a coalition government with the Conservatives have managed to ditch the scheme introduced by the previous Labour Government. But while we can all now celebrate their overdue demise, they have unfortunately already cost the taxpayer almost £300 million...
