Cameron receives policy endorsement from a perhaps unwelcome source

Marine Le Pen (Photo: Reuters)A recent speech in which David Cameron said 'state multiculturalism' has failed in the UK and left young Muslims vulnerable to radicalisation, has received praise this week from one Europe's newest party leaders and one whose endorsement might not be well received in Westminster.

Marine Le Pen, the newly-chosen leader of the French extreme-right National Front party, has said in an interview with the Financial Times that "it is exactly this type of statement that has barred us from public life for 30 years [...] I sense an evolution at European level, even in classic governments. I can only congratulate him."

Ms Le Pen goes on to claim it is "indisputable"that the British PM is more closely aligning himself with the views of the headline-grabbing party founded by her controversial father Jean-Marie. "Moreover," she said, "he will do something about it, unlike Nicolas Sarkozy who talks a lot without taking political decisions."

According to the FT, Mr Cameron's team are not returning the compliments - oh quelle surprise...
